Beating Winter Ailments with Essential Oils

Well, we have officially entered into cold/flu season, and I recently got my first taste of being the mom of a child with a stomach bug. My poor two-year old came home from the baby-sitter’s house throwing up and unable to keep anything in her stomach. I’ll be honest, it was pretty gross and definitely not a happy situation. Unfortunately, with a stomach bug, there really isn’t a whole lot you can do except ride it out and hope that it doesn’t last too long.

Enter dōTERRA’s OnGuard Essential Oil Blend.

After arranging my toddler as comfortably as possible, I got out my OnGuard Essential Oil and applied a drop to both her feet (as well as mine and my husband’s) and placed several drops in my diffuser in the kitchen. Within an hour or so of doing this, her episodes of being sick decreased significantly and she began to keep small amounts of liquid inside her. By the next day, her fever had gone and she was almost back to normal. I could tell she was still physically exhausted from the previous day’s ordeal since she was VERY cranky and sleepy all day long. Within 72 hours, she was back to her normal happy and busy self. Throughout this whole ordeal, and despite close and prolonged contact with her, I was able to avoid contracting the illness myself. (I suppose there is always the chance she had food poisoning and she would have felt better anyway, but trust me, the last time I had food poisoning, it lasted all night and so I am still a believer in OnGuard.)

Here are some other ways I use dōTERRA’s OnGuard Essential Oil:

OnGuard All-Purpose Cleaner

1-2 Tbsp liquid Castile Soap (I use Dr. Bronner’s)

8 – 12oz Distilled Water

20 Drops OnGuard EO

Squirt Bottle (preferably glass or stainless steel)

Combine in squirt bottle: Castile Soap and Essential Oil. Then fill the squirt bottle with distilled water. Use this all-purpose cleaner on counter tops, sinks, bathtubs or where ever you usually use your all-purpose cleaner.

OnGuard Foaming Hand Soap

2 Tbsp liquid Castile Soap

¼ tsp Moisturizing Oils (such as Olive, Almond, Grapeseed, Coconut, or Apricot Kernal)

¼ tsp Vegetable Glycerin (optional)

10 drops OnGuard Essential Oil

Distilled Water

Foaming Hand Soap dispenser

Fill dispenser about ¾ full of water then add the rest of the ingredients.

Use every time you wash your hands.

OnGuard is dōTERRA’s unique proprietary blend of Wild Orange, Clove Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary Essential Oils and can be bought here.

If you are pregnant, please remember to use ALL Essential Oils with caution.

(note: other good immunity boost single essential oils include: Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon, Melaleuca/Tea Tree, Peppermint, Rosemary, and Thyme)

How do you plan to stay healthy this winter?
